While there might not be anything really gay about a solar eclipse, we’re pretty gay for solar eclipses. This past weekend’s solar eclipse was a rare event, as the sun behind the moon created a ring of fire. Those on the west coast were more fortunate with viewings (it turns out eclipse-viewing glasses do exist), and it had lovers of all thing sky question their sexuality. OK, not really. But it does turn out that there are more gay astronomy lovers on this planet than you would imagine.
As of last month, according to The OutList of LGBT Astronomers, 50 astronomers were documented as openly gay, and those are just the ones The OutList seemed to find. We swoon. There’s something about an astronomer with a big telescope that just does it for us… Oh, and that whole sky thing, of course.
